    Overview

GymPoint uses Poynt as its payment processing platform. Poynt provides PCI-compliant payment terminals for in-person transactions and the Poynt Collect iframe for secure online card capture. This guide walks you through connecting your Poynt account, discovering terminals, and verifying everything works with a test transaction.

    Prerequisites

    Before you begin, you need:

    • A GymPoint account with Owner or Admin permissions.
    • A Poynt merchant account. If you do not have one yet, GymPoint can guide you through the merchant boarding process (see below).

Step 1: Navigate to Payment Settings

    1. Log in to your GymPoint dashboard.
    2. Go to Settings > Billing in the left sidebar.
    3. Open the Processor page.

Step 2: Connect Your Poynt Account

If You Already Have a Poynt Account

    1. Click Connect Poynt Account.
    2. You will be redirected to Poynt's authorization page.
    3. Log in with your Poynt business credentials.
    4. Authorize GymPoint to access your Poynt account.
    5. You are redirected back to GymPoint with a confirmation that the connection is active.

If You Need a New Poynt Account

    1. Click Set Up Payment Processing.
    2. GymPoint starts the merchant boarding flow powered by Poynt's PayFac model.
    3. Fill in your business information: legal entity name, EIN/tax ID, business address, and bank account details for deposits.
    4. Submit the application.
    5. Poynt reviews and approves your application, typically instantly.
    6. Once approved, you receive an email from Poynt with your account credentials.
    7. Your Poynt terminal (if ordered) will be shipped to your gym.
    8. Return to Settings > Billing > Payment Processor and click Connect Poynt Account to complete the link.

Step 3: Terminal Discovery and Registration

Once your Poynt account is connected and your terminal is powered on and connected to the internet:

    1. Go to Settings > Billing > Payment Processor.
    2. Click Discover Terminals.
    3. GymPoint scans for Poynt terminals associated with your merchant account.
    4. Your terminal appears in the list with its serial number and model information.
    5. Click Register next to the terminal to link it to your GymPoint organization.
    6. Give the terminal a friendly name (e.g., "Front Desk Terminal" or "Checkout Counter").

    Terminal Not Appearing?

    • Confirm the terminal is powered on and connected to Wi-Fi or Ethernet.
    • Ensure the terminal is activated with your Poynt merchant account (check your Poynt dashboard at poynt.net).
    • Try clicking Discover Terminals again after waiting 30 seconds.
    • If the terminal still does not appear, restart the terminal and try again.

Step 4: Test Your First Transaction

Before processing real member payments, run a test to confirm the terminal and account are working correctly.

    1. Go to Settings > Billing > Payment Processor.
    2. Click Send Test Charge.
    3. GymPoint sends a small authorization (typically $0.01) to the terminal.
    4. On the terminal, follow the prompts to tap, insert, or swipe a card.
    5. The transaction completes, and GymPoint displays a success or failure message.
    6. The test charge is voided automatically and will not appear on the cardholder's statement.

If the test fails, check the error message displayed. Common issues include network connectivity problems or an inactive merchant account.

    Online Payments with Poynt Collect

For online transactions (e.g., members paying through the member portal), GymPoint uses Poynt Collect, a PCI-compliant embedded payment form.

    • Poynt Collect is automatically enabled once your Poynt account is connected.
    • The secure card entry form appears wherever members need to enter payment details online (member portal, signup forms).
    • Cards are tokenized by Poynt and never stored on GymPoint's servers.

No additional setup is required for Poynt Collect.

    Security and PCI Compliance

Poynt handles all card data in a PCI DSS Level 1 compliant environment. GymPoint never stores, processes, or transmits raw card numbers. All card information is tokenized by Poynt, and only secure tokens are used for recurring billing and transaction processing.

    Next Steps

With Poynt connected and your terminal registered, you are ready to:

    • Create membership plans and process enrollment payments.
    • Set up the POS for in-person product sales.
    • Configure recurring billing for automatic membership charges.
