Setting Up Text Messaging

Activate your gym's text messaging in GymPoint, prepare your business details and signup form, and check the setup status before sending.

Set up your gym's texting number under Settings > Marketing > Text Messaging. GymPoint uses your business details to register texting with the messaging provider and carriers. Once the number is live, your team can send member texts from GymPoint. Individual texts work on every plan. Bulk texts to a segment need Growth or Pro.

    Before you start

    Have these details ready:

    • Your legal business name and EIN, matching your business registration records.
    • Your business website and complete gym address.
    • A valid US business phone number on your Gym Profile. GymPoint uses it to choose your texting area code.
    • The gym owner's name, email address, and phone number.
    • An active public signup form with a visible phone field and SMS consent checkbox.
    • A card on file under Billing. The setup fee is charged to it when you request activation.

Use an account with permission to manage marketing settings. GymPoint fills in much of the registration from your Gym Profile and the owner account. Correct missing profile details before submitting.

    1. Check your public signup form

Open Settings > Members > Signup Forms. Check that your form is active and includes the phone field. Open its public link to confirm that a visitor can reach it and see the SMS consent option.

The consent checkbox should be optional and unchecked. A member entering a phone number is not the same as agreeing to receive texts. GymPoint's signup disclosure explains the message types, STOP and HELP instructions, and links to the messaging terms and privacy policy.

The public form matters because carrier reviewers need to inspect how people opt in. Twilio's registration guidance explains what they look for in a business website and consent process.

    2. Review the registration details

Return to Settings > Marketing > Text Messaging. The setup card shows the business and preferred area code being registered.

Enter your Legal business name. If the screen requests an EIN or Website, fill those in too. Use the legal entity name rather than a different public-facing gym name.

If the card lists other missing fields, update your Gym Profile or owner account, then reload the page. If it says a signup form is required, finish the form check above before continuing.

    3. Review the charges and request activation

The agreement on the setup card shows the one-time setup fee, monthly fee per number, and outbound text rate. Review those displayed amounts, select the agreement checkbox, and click Request & Activate Texting. GymPoint charges the setup fee at that moment. If you see Add a card under Billing to turn on texting, add the card and come back to this page.

    4. Check the setup status

The card changes to a registration-in-progress message while the provider and carriers process the request. Return to this page to check progress. When setup finishes, GymPoint shows that text messaging is live and displays your current number.

If you see Setup needs attention, review your legal business name, EIN, website, and signup form before resubmitting. Contact support if the same issue remains, and include the status shown on the page. Keep business tax details out of ordinary support screenshots.

    5. Set your messaging preferences

    On the same page, review:

    • Receive email notifications for text responses, so your team knows when someone replies.
    • Allow texts from unknown numbers, if you want those conversations saved as leads.
    • Quiet hours, including the start and end times you want your team to use.

Save your changes. Then send a short test to a member or staff profile that has opted in, and check that the message arrives before you text more members. See Sending Messages to Members for the sending workflow.

    Common setup questions

Why is the activation button unavailable?

Check the required fields and the fee agreement. An incomplete legal business name, missing EIN or website, missing profile information, or missing public signup form can keep activation unavailable.

Can I text everyone who has a phone number in their profile?

Send only the message types the person agreed to receive. Keep that consent with their record and respect opt-outs. Twilio requires consent for the sender and message subject, along with a way to withdraw it. See its messaging policy.

Where do I start if a message does not arrive?

First confirm that texting is live. Then check the recipient's number and SMS consent, your quiet-hour settings, and the message's delivery status. The message troubleshooting guide covers the next checks.
